Glenaldor House is beautifully set above an ornamental garden and there is private parking for residents and ample parking off the main road outside.

A stone inscription, next door, commemorates Peter Pan's Author J.M.Barrie, who lived here. JM Barrie

The inscription reads:

"Sir James Matthew Barrie. Bart.O.M.1860-1937.
Scottish novelist and dramatist

J.M.Barrie lived in this house, the home of his brother, while a scholar at Dumfries Acadamy from 1873-1878.
He regarded his stay in Dumfries among his happiest days.

His works include: Dear Brutus, The Little Minister, Quality Street, Peter Pan, The Admirable Crichton, Mary Rose. In 1924 Sir James was made a Freeman of Dumfries, the town where Peter Pan was born."
